Speaker Biography
One of Canada’s most experienced multi-platform journalists, Evan Solomon hosted two of Canada’s most popular national television news programs, CTV’s Power Play and Question Period. He has interviewed key political players around the world, from prime ministers to presidents, to the Dalai Lama and Jimmy Carter, among others, and moderated national leadership debates.
Born and raised in Toronto, Solomon is a two-time Gemini Award-winner and best-selling author who has covered federal and provincial politics, news, and current events for more than 15 years. He’s covered politics, culture, and events all over the world – from the elections in Canada and the US, to the navy’s battle against piracy in the Persian Gulf, and the aftermath of the Tsunami in Indonesia.
Prior to his work at CTV, Evan hosted the daily award-winning national political TV program Power & Politics with Evan Solomon at the CBC, among other programs at the national public broadcaster. He also executive produced and hosted the daily radio program Everything is Political on Sirius XM radio. A best-selling author, Evan’s books include Fueling the Future: How the Battle Over Energy Is Changing Everything, nominated for the National Business Book Award and the National Science Book of the Year, and Feeding the Future: From Fat to Famine: How to Solve the World’s Food Crisis. Both books were re-released as Food and Fuel.
Solomon also hosted award-winning program HOT TYPE and FUTUREWORLD on CBC, and hosted a series called THE CHANGE MAKERS, along with a series for PBS in the U.S. called MASTERS OF TECHNOLOGY.
Evan also hosted the BellMedia/iHeart Radio daily two-hour radio program, The Evan Solomon Show, and was a columnist for Maclean’s, Canada’s national weekly magazine.
Evan holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from McGill University, where his two children are now students. When not knee deep in politics, Evan would drop anything for a long run, a game of tennis, or a jam session on guitar. In all of the above, his passion is way ahead of his talent.
