Dr. Samantha Yammine is a Neuroscientist and popular Science Communicator better known as Science Sam. She earned her PhD from the University of Toronto studying how stem cells build and maintain the brain.

In 2026, Sam is the host of Curiosity Weekly, the flagship science podcast for Warner Bros. Discovery. Each week she unpacks the latest breakthroughs in neuroscience, climate tech, AI, genetics, and more—interviewing expert guests and exploring the research shaping our world. She is also a regular science expert on CTV’s The Good Stuff with Mary Berg, and has made appearances as a guest expert on TV, radio and streaming platforms including Netflix, CBC, TVO Kids, AsapSCIENCE and Discovery UK.

Science Sam has built a community of over a quarter million followers across social media platforms and worked with leading science organizations including the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Let’s Talk Science, and Health Canada to make complex science more engaging, inclusive, and accessible.

Sam is the Chair and Co-Founder of the award-winning nonprofit Science is a Drag, and sits on the Advisory Board of ScienceUpFirst, a national initiative to combat science misinformation. She was a judge for the illustrious Nikon Small World competition for its 50th anniversary, and is a returning judge for the St. Michael’s Hospital Angel’s Den competition. In 2021, Samantha was named one of Toronto Life’s Top 50 most influential people, and appeared on the front page of the Toronto Star for her efforts helping people get informed about vaccination.

Samantha always takes an audience-first approach to share complex topics in clear and entertaining ways. She is a frequently requested speaker and event host who loves engaging folks with anything science, anywhere & everywhere – she’s hosted a livestream with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station, presented her research on the streets at Toronto’s busiest intersection, talked ringside with Muay Thai fighters about performance anxiety, and showed off model and real brains at 1am in a Yurt during an all-night art festival. She leads interactive workshops on science communication, personal branding, and social media to teach scientists and STEM professionals the skills they need to share their science creatively.
