Dr. Peter Hanson, M.D. has a unique background, one that gives him outstanding qualifications on the subject of stress.
At the age of 24 Dr. Hanson graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School. A year later, he was appointed team doctor for the Toronto Argonauts Football club, becoming the youngest team doctor in professional sports. In this position, he learned a great deal of the effects of stress on human performance.
Further establishing his medical credentials, Dr. Hanson worked as an Emergency Room physician in a busy suburban Toronto hospital for three years. In 1973 he established an office practice in family medicine that became one of the largest in Canada, with over 4,000 active patients from newborns to centenarians. He has delivered over 1,000 babies, and made over 5,000 house calls. This gave him a truly unique window on stress and its effect on health from cradle to grave.
When the Joy of Stress was released in 1985, it rose to number one in Canada and stayed on the national best-seller list for a then record 79 weeks. Since then it has been published in more than a dozen languages, most recently Chinese, and has sold over a million copies.
Dr. Hanson has delivered keynote speeches to hundreds of live audiences, from Fortune 500 corporations to business associations, as well as the general public. In promoting his books around the world, he has appeared on hundreds of live television shows in Europe, the US and Canada, and Australia. A nationally syndicated radio feature ran daily in Canada for over five years.
Dr. Hanson now resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he practices medicine as a general practitioner. Prior to that he resided in Denver, Colorado where he practiced drug-free pain and stress management, using medical acupuncture. His first Denver patient was Bronco’s football star John Elway and Dr. Hanson continues to treat professional athletes from all over the country as well as local weekend warriors. He has treated Olympic athletes from Canada, the US, and Europe. Pro players for the Los Angeles Kings and the Colorado Avalanche can also be counted among his patients.
Dr. Hanson has even faced stress by addressing the effects of stress on our faces. Teaming up with Suzanne Somers and Rodger Mohme, the three developed the FaceMaster, an at-home system that tones the underlying muscles of the face and reduces the signs of stress. Dr. Hanson and Ms. Somers now appear regularly on television, demonstrating this significant invention.
Dr. Hanson continues to educate live audiences by offering his expertise in an interesting and entertaining way.
